Game Recap/Notes. Game #24. Pistons 116 - Wizards 119. (OT) (4-20)
Tough one to lose. Pistons played decent through a lot of the game. And did well to fight back after falling down by like 10. But tanking or not, 10 losses in a row is hard to take.
Killian Hayes:
Only played 22 minutes. Had minimal impact. Casey said that Killian's -14 was the culprit for why he sat for so long. Which I guess is fair, he wasn't playing very well, but its also still stupid because other guts have had some brutal +/- nights and not been treated that way. Poor way to handle young guys.
Cade Cunningham:
Rough night until overtime. In overtime he hit 4 straight buckets where he attacked the paint effectively and it was great to see. Despite that he still finished with 20 points on 22 equivalents, 3 assists against 3 turnovers.
The spurts where he gets aggressive and attacks makes me wonder if he needs someone to get in his ear a bit about it. It seems pretty clear that he could get his own more often than he does, and he should do that.
Saddiq Bey:
Also played just over 20 minutes, also had a big - and likely joined Killian on the shit list for it. For his part though, 8 points on 6 shots. I didn't think he played that badly.
Jerami Grant:
28 points on 22 equivalents. Took 15(!!) Free throws, was the main guy who got the Pistons to overtime after falling way behind. Grant seems to be finding a good rhythm scoring the ball. The problem remains that he just doesn't do much to make his teammates better.
Isaiah Stewart:
Good game for Stew. 11 points on 6 shots and 10 boards in 30 minutes. The defense was only so-so but he did a good job of finding space on offense and finished the looks he was given. Type of game that shows hope for his future offensive potential as a whip-smart mover who just finds space in the defense for easy looks.
Trey Lyles:
His only bucket was a nice turnaround jumper at the free-throw line, other than that I hated watching him every moment he was on the floor.
Cory Joseph:
Played 18 minutes, scored 2 points and had 5 assists. I do not enjoy his basketball either.
Frank Jackson:
I do enjoy Frank Jackson. I’m a broken record on this but he has really found a great comfort zone as a spark-plug shooter off the bench. He is basically what Jodie Meeks was supposed to be, just another guy that the SVG Pistons would’ve killed to have but couldn’t find.
19 points on just 10 shot equivalents, 5-7 from deep. Was the guy who they drew up the game-winning attempt in overtime for, which is find, the problem is the play put him out by the logo for reasons that are really not clear.
Josh Jackson:
Didn’t play a lot. Put in 7 points on 6 shots. It’s not as blatant as with Frank but I do think Josh is also finding some comfort as a creator off the bench as well.
Hamidou Diallo:
Played 29 minutes and earned every one of them. I continue to adore the way he is playing right now, 12 points on 9 equivalents, a monster dunk, just a fun game for him. He even went 2-3 from deep!
General:
I am not that upset about Cade being the inbounder on the final play. I would’ve rather gotten it to him because he was cooking but whatever. I do have issue with you final play being to run Frank Jackson, without any screens or other actions, all the way out to the logo. The Pistons need a win.
